English Education for future India

English to weaker sections of Indian society India is fast moving ahead as one of the technologically most advanced countries in the world. But, the tragedy of India is that the present generation is suffering from "mal-education". It is because the people and those in power ignored the educational department as one of the unproductive departments. Education is one of the social overhead capitals which lay the foundation of the future of any country. If education gets corrupted, the result cannot be seen immediately but after twenty years. The present dirt in education is going to choke the future generation. Some people think that denying education to the masses helps them retain power and position forever. But, history of man has proven that such a situation cripples the whole country. So, the urgent need is to cleanse all the dirt out of the department.  If the present education should cater to the future generation, it should concentrate on English education. Because the ...

On meditation

Hello dear friends, Today let us understand meditation. There are different kinds of meditation. Now I am going to tell you about Buddhist meditation. Buddhists have breathing techniques and repetition of some words as tools of meditation. There are three schools of Buddhism, namely, Hinayana(Theravada), Mahayana and Vajrayana and their methods of meditation meditation.vary accordingly. First of all , let us take up Vajrayana meditation. It is being predominantly practiced in Tibet and Mangolia. Vajrayana is also called as Tibetan Buddhism. But scholars claim that it was a part of Mahayana school and widely popular in India before 8th century AD. However further research is needed. In Vajrayana and Mahayana schools they repeat certain sacred words which they call as mantras. In Mahayana, they meditate by repeating certain words like- "Om mani padme hum". It means: Be a drop of water on lotus. (Be unattached to worldly affairs as the world is impermanent). In Vajrayana, they m...

On Women's Liberators

This is addressed to the so called women liberation activists. But I wonder whether they are sincere enough to read this article completely. I wonder whether they act on it honestly and creatively. These activists are spending their time , money and energy in entertaining one another. These activists call themselves as revolutionaries having trained themselves in western culture and western education. Do not mistake me for an old religious dogmatist or obscurantist or paternal conservative. These 'Revolutionaries', as they call themselves as such, are in reality a bunch of show mongers, full of vanity and seldom use their central nerve system. A revolutionary, to call oneself as such, should have an ideology and an in-depth knowledge of the existing society's idealogy. If they do not, how can they expect to change the existing social system? The present activists have none. Infact, they are not sure of what they really want to do.  There are two set of activists, though th...

On Thinking

Man is a thinking animal. Thinking is a skill which changes an animal into a man. Thinking has helped man to become civilised. It has also helped man to become cultured. Man's thinking is more powerful than a nuclear explosion. Thinking helped Buddha to reach his enlightenment. Thinking transformed Socrates into the father of Greek philosophy. Man's thinking has created great empires, movements and revolutions. It has created great thinkers like Karl Marx, Rousseau, Voltaire and Montesquieu. Man's future lies in his present thinking. There are two kinds of thinking: good thinking and bad thinking.  Good thinking is the result of combining logical thinking with compassion for fellow beings. Good thinking gave man his fire, wheel, writing, fine arts, and helped him build wonderful structures like Pyramids and Tajmahal. Good thinking helped Columbus invent America. Good thinking helped the inventors like Marconi, Edison, Faraday and Galileo. Good thinking helped Einstein formu...

What are the problems of teaching English?

India is a multilingual country. All the Indians do not speak a uniform language. Moreover the state governments have been laying more importance to local mother tongues and they are showing a step motherly attitude towards English. Some of the writers in local mothertongues are also raising demands of making local languages as administrative languages. In the face of all these realities the English teachers in India are facing many difficulties in teaching English. I have tried to make a list of problems of teaching English in India. They are:  1. English sentence structure is different from that  of mothertongue. In English the place of verb is after noun but before object. But in Hindi and other languages the verb appears after object. This difference creates problem to the students to understanding, to write and to speak English.  Ex:  1)Rama ate a fruit.(English) 2)Rama phal khaaya.( Hindi) 3)Rama hannanu thindanu. (Kannada) 4)Ramudu pandu thine.(Telugu) 5...
